The summer season is coming to an end after a wildly successful Ibiza season at Pacha.
August 2005 Tour re-cap
The August tour kicked off in the Mediterranean island Sardinia, where there was a blackout in the middle of the night for about 30 minutes. The crowd was chanting while it was happening and went absolutely nuts when the power came back on and the music started again. It was hot as hell as well! Dance Valley in Amsterdam was really good but it rained and it was sooo cold. I flew there directly from Spain and wore flip flops to the festival... Wrong idea! It was messy, you don’t even want to know... The main stage was shut down because the weather, so Sasha couldn’t play at all, so I donated the last 1 hour of my set to him so it all worked out to everybody’s benefit. Deep Dish came on after him. I heard the next day at the festival was mud hell. The Cavo gig in Myconos had another successful year. The place was mad packed and the party lasted til past 11 am! All of my Italian gigs were as awesome as ever, I had the best summer playing at ECHOES. Simply amazing and it’s impossible to get tired of this party. I also had a blast at the “Double Release Party” with Sasha at Shindig. They relocated the venue and it’s better than ever with a rocking sound system. They extended the club hours (opening 1 hour earlier and closing 1 hour later) and the place was packed by 11 pm. I played for 2.5 hours, it passed by so quickly, I was like “oh, what happened? That’s it??” Then, Sasha took over the console. Another amazing night, but it is simply impossible to compete with the Geordies as far as drinking goes. Tunisia was a very interesting place and it was my first time there. I hope to be these places back again sometime soon... |

We’re proud to welcome Kevin to the SAW family and are happy to introduce you to this talented and compelling artist. Kevin Freeman has been a DJ for over 10 years and producing his own music for just under 5 years now. He landed his first residency at club night 'Elektra' in Scotland at the age of 17 and regularly played alongside the likes of Carl Cox, Nick Warren, Mrs Woods & David Holmes to name but a few. Kevin also runs Sensei Records which he has now established as one of the UK's most respected underground labels. The label features a wealth of quality artists including the likes of Colin Dale, Tony Thomas, Harold Heath, Jeff Bennett, Inland Knights, Flow, John Dahlback, Circulation, Jacob London and Shawn Ward.
James Zabiela recently licensed Kevin’s ‘Lost Planet’ track which was released on Sensei Limited for his ‘Alive Volume 2’ compilation out on Renaissance. Immediately following that Nic Fancuilli licensed 3 Sensei tracks for inclusion on his forthcoming Renaissance compilation. Kevin also writes and produces as part of a band called ‘Dyad10’ (a favorite Hector Romero tune by the way), alongside Mark Nicol and Julie Dennis. Julie is a world class vocalist who has worked with a wealth of top flight artists including among others George Michael and the Rolling Stones. After having only written 3 tracks they have signed an album deal with Deep Dish’s ‘Yoshitoshi’ label with the first release ‘Sugar’ due out in October 2005. www.sensei-records.com.

Check out Satoshi Tomiie ‘ES-B’ reviews in the press:
SATOSHI TOMIIE - ES-B (SAW RECORDINGS)
4.5 stars
Not only is Satoshi Tomiie's more subdued ES-B mix better than its club-oriented predecessor, ES (also released on SAW), it's far more nuanced. Anyone who's heard Deep Dish's Global Underground Afterclub mixes and wished they represented the sound the duo were championing in the main room may get a similar feeling after listening to Tomiie's ES-B. Like Deep Dish, Tomiie's moved from deeper house sounds to decidedly more progressive ones. Listen to ground breaking albums like DD's Junk Science or Tomiie's Full Lick and it's easy to hear the difference. With the reduction in the beats per minute, the ES-B mix happily finds a sexy, heartfelt groove rather than that sinister lustful drub that Tomiie might best be known for at peak hours. It isn't exactly chill out, but it's a deeper sort of house feel that old folks who dug Tomiie back in tha day will definitely appreciate. Star You Star Me's intro of "Sweet Thing" is all twinkling sunshine and sets the stage for the mellow synths of Metro Area, noodling disco of M1, cowbell electro of Dan Berkson, Chicago-fused Kerri Chandler, Elmar Schubert's snapping funk and more from Spirit Catcher, John Tejada, Chab and Tomiie's own twangy click beat on "Glow." If ES-B is Tomiie's Back-to-Mine sort of mix, be sure to wait on his doorstep after his gig is over - Tomiie's after party is just getting warmed up. satoshitomiie.com, sawrecordings.com - review by Yuri Wuensch www.djfix.com |
