Satoshi Tomiie releases ‘ES-B’ (pronounced ès-B), the second in a two part mix series through SAW.RECORDINGS on 2nd August. The follow-up to ‘ES’ sees Satoshi cast off the shackles of his progressive leanings and dig for some deeper house. “I love the deeper stuff but with the gigs I get it’s a lot more difficult for that to filter through in my sets,” says Satoshi. “’ES-B’ is moving more towards the Inland Knights than the chunky progressive style that I usually play out.” |

SAW041: CHAB "YOU & ME"
Release Date: July 4, 2005
"YOU & ME" first debuted as the opening track on CHAB’s debut artist album Dub, Edits and Whiskey-Coke on SAW.Recordings. It now gets a second life on dancefloors worldwide with a new set of remixes.
"You and Me" was written by Francois Chabloz and produced by Chab. The Album Mix has an electro-inspired incessant warbling hook bolstering a simplistic track that slowly builds with electronic strings, groaning vocals and distorted "you and me" vocals. The minimal groove gets the 12" Club Remix turning it into a complex building layered track which is highly musical with film score quality. Stunning strings and anthemic keys add magic to the warbling hook. The Tool Mix is a true film score with the versatile strings. (Mark Moor)
Amazing tune. Love it and hammering it out. (Anthony Pappa)
You & Me starts off the mix with a mind bending theme that blends trippy trance elements with soul searching synths. (PROGRESSSIVE-SOUNDS.com)
You & Me, is superb, full of raw emotion and atmosphere thanks to some quirky melodies and beautiful string patterns. (RESIDENTADVISOR.net)

Check out Satoshi Tomiie ‘ES’ reviews in the press:
Satoshi drops his first mix album in three years, and it’s the first in a two part series to boot. The follow-up ‘ES-B’ a more downbeat affair – will be released before the end of the summer. This though features the likes of Kevin Freeman, Avenue D, Peace Division and motors through progressive tech-house, acid tinges, analogue retroisms and gliding, propulsive dancefloor textures. It all makes for a smooth excursion that has a hint of a dirtier undercurrent that’s never too far away. In short, energized but classy… (DJ MAG)
More so than any of his other commercial mixes, Satoshi Tomiie’s ES (Electronic Soul) feels most complementary to his debut album, Full Lick, released back in 1999. The same way Full Lick exemplified a combination of futuristic and classic house sensibilities, is definitely heard on ES, demonstrating Tomiie’s evolution as a DJ and SAW’s growth as one of dance’s marquee labels. Exemplifying that old-meets-new duality, Bush II Bush’s piano line in “Piano Track” kicks off with a mid-90s Balearic/Frankie Knuckles house vibe eventually introducing some 303s for that modern hint of acid. Tomiie has also, happily, gotten away from that dark, dreary progressive house clique, instead keeping things rolling with a real electro-tech-tribal flair. It’s a strident and jumping mix, but not one without a couple of iffy tracks. The bass line on Avenue D’s “You Love This Ass” is fat, but the synths are a tad cheesy. And the Speak n Spell sample (spelling out “h…o…u…s…e…” – say it!) on the mash up of Roach Motel’s “This Beat is Mine (Work That Body)” and Demi’s “D Drive” is also eye-roll inducing. However, through more material by Peace Division, Coburn, Chab (with Tomiie’s edit of “You and Me” from SAW’s debut original artist album – Dub, Edits & Whisky-Coke) and others, the mix is redeemed. Tommiie will be releasing a downtempo mix later this year and he’s got a new artist album slated for 2006, so ES portends of great things to come from SAW. (review by Yuri Wuensch - RAVES.com)
The first track, Kevin Freedman’s techy Time for Revolution leads into the electro tinged house of Tribute by Pastaboy’s. As the track progresses, so does the acid treatment, before exploding into a remix of Avenue D’s You Love This Ass. Pure tribal, acid-funk madness, it seems inevitable that the compilation can only continue spiraling further out of control, but instead it is reigned in by Bush II Bush’s Piano Track. Undoubtedly the highlight of the CD, its genius lies in the jazz inspired piano line. While both compelling and mesmerising, it remains subtle enough to allow violin and synth to slowly build in intensity. The last ten tracks are a showcase in expertly programmed variety, including harder edged progressive, melody, crunchy beats, experimental electro and even disco-tinged house. (INPRESS/TRANZFUSION.net)
Satoshi is back with a 14-track opus that is stained and dark, with chugging beats that set the mood for the most twisted journey into Satoshi’s dirtier crates. ‘ES’ is the first of a 2-part series, with ‘ESB’ following along later. ‘ES’ kicks off with progressive tech-house followed by looped acid frenzy to sultry smooth bumpin. With tracks from Kevin Freeman, Avenue D, Sucker DJ, Roach Motel, and Chab you’re getting one hell of a “first-part.” (JIVE MAGAZINE)
Putting the "progress" in progressive house, Satoshi Tomiie rips out a clean and precise groove on E.S. as he combines a classic sound with acid textures and Wavy electro. E.S, short for "Electronic Soul," has some of the sparse pluck found on his Integration 1 disc from 2001. But the record skips around quite a bit as well; summery disco ("Friday Loops") sits happily alongside metallic stomps ("Yeahdancetomyrecordbitch") and jazzy techno ("Piano Track"). Whack it onto the stereo for a quick pick-me-up before heading out into the night (or the pre-dawn morning). (AMAZON.com) |
